During the last 60 or so years, Soviet/Russian Air Force, the VVS, was one of the most influential
armed services in the world and had not only some of the best fighter and bomber planes,
but also state of the art flight gear for its pilots. I've been collecting and selling Russian flight gear
for several years now and noticed that all too many Western collectors can talk hours about different
helmets, oxygen masks and suits produced in the West, but when it came to Russian flight gear, they can
only give a couple of generic names. Books for flight gear collectors had also followed pretty
much in the same path - they give details only on only major designs and full of mistakes. I
hope this website will shed some light on the diversity of Russian flight gear. In conclusion I would like to
say that this site by no means should be taken as a 'final word' on Russian flight gear - mistakes are
bound to happen. If you think I've made a mistake, please email me with a correction.
