Series of Komar emergency radio station sets was developed to be used primarily by Soviet Navy pilots,
but also by VVS and PVO pilots who had to fly over large water areas. In a nutshell, it was a standard
issue R-885UM emergency radio station packed inside of the bright orange baloon. The whole set was
placed along the NAZ survival kit. Upon ejecting, Komar's baloon could be automatically inflated by
a CO2 catridge, as well as manually by pilot. Inflated baloon can float in the water and it's
orange color made it easy to find it by both, pilot and his rescuers.
|
| Komar-2MP sets were issued in a small carrying bag. Note the nomenclature on the bag - second
line is name of the set, third is set's serial number. |
|
| Inside of the bag, besides the orange colored Komar baloon with radio station, there is a small
extension cord with communication wiring (one side connects to radio station, other to pilot's
helmet). "Priboi" battery was also issued with the set, but is not pictured here. |
|
| Loocated on the bottom part of the orange baloon is a small box with metal outside cover. CO2
catridge that automatically deploys Komar and R-885UM radio station are located inside of this box.
Note the writing on the cover - it's both in Russian and English. |
|
| Inside of the box - on the right is a small black CO2 catridge, on the left, inside of the
rubber pocket, is brightly colored R-885UM emergency radio station. |
|
| On the inner part of the box's outer cover is a small diagram showing cable arrangment. Once
again, diagram is both, in Russian and English. |
|
| Here is how the deployed Komar-2MP looks like. |
|
| Komar's ID sign. Note that baloon identified as "Komar-2M". |
