NPL-M is a pilot's notepad with several pages which pilot fills up with important information about his planned flight route. First page lists airbases and all of the associated with them data. Second and third pages cover the acctual flight route (checkpoints, weather conditions, time, estimated fuel left and etc). Fourth and fifth pages are blank and probably left for the pilot to enter any additional vital information not covered in previous pages. Finally the last, seventh page, contains a simple flight calculator to help him plan his route.

There are numerous pictures that suggest NPL-M is worn by pilots flying almost any Soviet / Russian single seat aircraft, including the latest Mig-29 and Su-27 family of fighters.

NPL-M notepad is issued in its own carrying pouch. Pouch is made out some kind of leather substitude and comes in brown and black colors.
