ShL-78 was the further refinment of the ShL-61 series of helmets. Like its predecessor, it was made in 3
different versions - standard, tropical and winter.
Main external difference between ShL-61 and ShL-78 is the repositioned top strap. On ShL-61 it went all
the way from forward to the back, passing underneath the pad. On ShL-78 strap was modified to end before
the pad. Another noticable difference - on the back, two side straps were replaced with one
positioned in the center.

ShZ-78 from above - note the new top strap. Mask hook stayed unchanged from the one on ShL-61
series of helmets.

Bomber crew combo which consists of the ShZ-78, LA-5 throat microphone and old style pilot
goggles. I've seen similar setup in one of the Soviet aviation movies with only difference pilots wore
regular ShL-78 helmets and either did not have goggles at all or had newer PO-1M - right now I do not
have a free set of PO-1M goggles so I substituted it with older goggels.
