ShL-82 is the latest Soviet / Russian leather helmet. First developed in 1982 its a further design upgrade of the ShL series of helmets and is externally identical to the ShL-78.

Just like all of the previous ShL helmets, ShL-82 has tropical, ShLO-82, and winter, ShZ-82, versions.

Front view of the ShL-82 helmet.
Right view of the ShL-82 helmet. Note that strap on the top of the helmet ends before the pad.
View from the back - note there is a single buttoned strap.
Close up on the top strap and mask hook.
ID tag of the ShL-82 helmet. First line is name of the helmet, second is size and third is date of production.

Right view of the ShLO-82 helmet. Note top is made out of mesh, not leather.
Close up on the mesh top.
View from the back. Note that ShLO-82 has two buttoned straps on the back, while regular ShL-82 only one.
ID tag of the ShLO-82 helmet, same style as the ShL-82.
ShL-82 helmet with KM-32AG mask - possible early setup of the Soviet helicopter pilots in Afghanistan.

ID tag of the ShZ-82 helmet.
Top view of the ShZ-82 - this helmet looks identical to the regular ShL-82.
Back view - unlike ShLO-82 above, this ShZ-82 has one buttoned strap just like the ShL-82.
Right view - once again note that while ShLO-82 does not have buttoned straps on sides, ShZ-82 has all the external atrributes of the ShL-82.
For all those who love real pilot combinations - here is the possible winter setup of Soviet bomber pilots. The only missing piece is the helmet liner cap which I do not currently own - but it was not always worn.
Same setup as above. Bomber crews had standard KM-32 mask, but since they did not need occipital bladders, they were taken out of the helmet leaving mask's bladder connector dangling in the air.
