ZSh-7AP modification is a ZSh-7A helmet with special mount to which either a targeting designator
or NVG could be attached. The mount itself attaches to the helmet via 3 screws in the upper forehead
area. This ZSh-7 modification is used by Mig-29 and Su-27 pilots. It could also be issued to helicopter
pilots so they could attach NVG to the helmet.
ZSh-7AP helmet - front view.
Same view but with visor in the down position.
Left view. Even though helmet has a bulky appereance on pilot's head, it is acctualy not heavy
and comparable in weight to ZSh-5 helmets, maybe just a bit heavier.
Targeting mount. Note that mounting frame can be adjusted both vertically and horizontally.
Side view of the targeting mount.
Wind blast openings which suppose to lower g-force loading on pilot's head upon ejection.
ZSh-7AP from inside. Note the upper cushion pad under which covers adjustable straps used to
custom fit the helmet to pilot's head. Pad on the bottom is acctually an occipital bladder.
Mask receiver design stayed similar to the one used on ZSh-5 series of helmets, though now it
has a small metal plate with the name of the helmet on it.
ID tag located on the inside side of the outer shell. It is standard to what was used on earlier
helmets designs - on the first line is the name of the helmet followed by the size; on the second line
is helmet's serial number. Also note handwriting with light blue ink above the first line - this helmet
was issued and pilot stenciled his name there.
ZSh-7AP from the back.
This and following images show a Su-27 pilot setup consisting of ZSh-7AP helmet and KM-35
oxygen mask.
